Transport to Papa Stour

The island of Papa Stour is located at the southern tip of St Magnus Bay, on the west coast of Shetland. It can be reached either by passenger/car ferry from West Burrafirth or by inter-island aircraft operating out of Tngwall.

Bus Service

A bus leaves the Viking Bus Station in Lerwick at 1700hrs Fridays and Saturdays and connects with a feeder service at Bixter to West Burrafirth. It is necessary to book this community taxi (feeder service) on 01595 745745. The community taxi can also be booked from West Burrafirth ferry terminal to Lerwick Friday, Saturday and Monday mornings.

There is a scheduled air service to Papa Stour on Tuesdays.

There is a small camping site/ picnic area next to the waiting room above the pier together with toilets, including disabled person access,and a public telephone.

Leaflets, with map, describing self- guided walk are available in the waiting room. There are also local postcards for sale.

The Papa Stour Kirk is open to the public and visitors are welcome.There is a small interpretative centre and display area to the rear of the building. The Norwegian partially reconstructed Stofa at the Biggins is also open to the public. There are two interpretative panels describing the process of  re-construction as well as the history of the site.
